Lewis L. Maltby is president of the National Workrights Institute, a research and education organization focusing on issues of human rights in the workplace. Before starting the Institute, he was the director of the American Civil Liberties Union's National Taskforce on Civil Liberties in the Workplace.
Lew Maltby has testified before Congress on four occasions regarding electronic monitoring by employers. He was deeply involved in the drafting and negotiations of the Privacy for Consumers and Workers Act, which Congress considered from 1990 until 1994. He currently is working with Senator Charles Schumer on the Notice of Electronic Monitoring Act.
He has worked closely with the business community on developing policies that protect legitimate employer interests while reducing intrusion into employees' personal communications. He has consulted with Business for Social Responsibility, the Chicago-Kent Management Group, and other employer organizations.
Over 100 media outlets have published Maltby's thoughts on electronic monitoring, including The New York Times, Washington Post and US News & World Report.
An accomplished public speaker, Maltby is well known for presenting important issues in a lively and entertaining manner. He often has been called a brainy Mark Twain.
